Where are you going and how do you plan to get there?

Career planning should be considered a life-long process with a strong emphasis on knowledge of self.  Historically it has been viewed as  a four step process:
  • choosing an occupation,
  • getting the first job,
  • developing within the job,
  • changing jobs/occupations, and
  • preparing for retirement.
The current financial climate calls for another step - coping with job loss. All of the steps are built on the foundation of understanding who you are in terms of interests, values, skills, and preferences. Understanding these facets of who you are supports a life balanced by job satisfaction and fulfilling leisure activities.

We are here to work with you at all stages of your occupational journey.....exploring options......taking those first steps.....coping with job loss or career transition....and preparing for retirement.

The Resume
This is a professional marketing tool and represents the first step in "selling" your skills to potential employers. A good marketing tool is always targeted to a specific employer or scholarship committee. First: keep a file that documents all of your work, activities, and achievements. Second: select the appropriate information to create a profile targeted to the employer's interests.
Networking
Remember that some of the best jobs aren't listed in the newspaper but often exist in the minds of people with the power to create and hire. By meeting people who offer insight into your career options, you also connect with people who can help you climb the ladder. Approach networking opportunities with a clear game plan: who's going to be there, what do you want to know, and what do you have to offer.

Make sure you are aware of employment levels in your area of interest and the educational requirements. Use the Bermuda Career Centre website to get a quick picture of current and future job trends in Bermuda.
